Sharphill Wood secured for the community
The future of Sharphill Wood would be secured as part of an exciting new development, which includes a comprehensive management and conservation plan for the area.
Proposals for an urban extension in Edwalton will be revealed in the coming weeks following an announcement that Bovis Homes, in conjunction with David Wilson Homes North Midlands, will submit an outline planning application later this year.
Bovis Homes Limited and David Wilson Homes North Midlands are aiming to develop the site located to the west of the Melton Road and to the east of Sharphill Wood, along with a smaller pocket of land, lying to the east of Melton Road and north of the A52 Gamston Lings Bar.
The revised plans for the 70-hectare site on the outskirts of Edwalton will centre on a controlled management plan for Sharphill Wood that will see the currently inaccessible woods protected and preserved for wildlife conservation and public enjoyment.
The plans for the site will include around 1200 new homes (including 30 per cent affordable for rent and shared ownership), a new primary school, enhanced secondary school facilities, and a dedicated bus route into the city. A new high street with a range of uses including retail, community facilities, and employment options is also proposed.
Keith Carnegie, regional managing director of Bovis Homes, said: “The urban extension plans for Edwalton are exciting. There is a real need for more housing in the Nottingham area, to meet the requirements of the local community. These proposals go some way to addressing this demand, as well as bringing additional benefits such as recreational facilities around the woods.”
“We will hold a public exhibition early in February to give the local community an opportunity to see what we are proposing for the site and to offer their comments and feedback before we submit a planning application. This will give us the opportunity to incorporate any appropriate changes before we submit a planning application.”
Bovis Homes and David Wilson Homes North Midlands will provide details of the public exhibition in the coming weeks. A website will also be developed to provide information about the proposal.
Robert Galij, planning director at David Wilson Homes, said: “We have been working on this very important scheme for some time now and are looking forward to presenting it to the local residents. Our proposals include some very real, long-term benefits for the community and we are keen to hear the residents views on them.”
