Public exhibition opens to showcase proposals
The proposals for the proposed urban extension at Melton Road, Edwalton go on show for the public today.
The proposal, which will see the creation of a separate 33 hectare community park, 1200 homes, educational facilities, employment opportunities and a dedicated bus route, will be showcased over a three day exhibition with members of the development team on hand to discuss the plans. Details for the public exhibition are:
- Thursday 7 February, 10am to 8pm at the Ruddington Parish Council Recreation Ground (Sports Pavilion), Loughborough Road, Ruddington NG11 6NX
- Friday 8 February, 10am to 6pm, also at the sports pavilion as above
- Saturday 9 February, 10am to 4pm at the Rushcliffe Leisure Centre, Boundary Road, NG7 7BY
Barry Herrod, regional planning manager for Bovis Homes said: “The proposals we’re presenting to the public are for a sustainable urban extension to Edwalton. With such a high demand to meet housing targets in the borough, this proposal offers a strategic opportunity for a mixed use development to satisfy that need whilst providing a significant area of land which will be laid out as a community park.”
“In addition to the proposed 62-hectare development, the plans include an additional 33-hectare community park including a stringent conservation and management plan for Sharphill Wood. Green Infrastructure is also an essential part of the development with green access and fauna corridors throughout the proposals.
“The free bus route option is also shaping up to be a key asset for the development. The FastTrack system is currently proving hugely successful in Dartford and allows for free access to the dedicated bus route for all those who live within the development. More information on all these features is available at the exhibition and people are encouraged to talk with members of the development team who will be on hand to answer any questions.”
Since the previous promotion of the site through the Rushcliffe Borough Local Plan Review and receipt of the Inspectors subsequent comments and recommendations, there have been material changes to the scheme and indeed the planning context in which this new application needs to be considered.
Robert Galij, planning director at David Wilson Homes, said: “There are a number of significant changes, one of which is the inclusion of the Melton Triangle. This element of the proposals will allow for a reduced number of houses to the west of Melton Road. There is also a significant green buffer between Sharphill Wood and the development.”
A dedicated project website was also launched to conincide with the opening of the public exhibition: www.edwaltonextension.info The website contains the information available at the public exhibition as well as a comment form.
All comments from the local community will be considered prior to the submission of a planning application in the Spring.
